...is funded by the United States Department of Education's "Teaching American History Program" and involves forty-five K-12 public school American history teachers from Coastal Plains Regional Education Support Agency (RESA) in Lenox, GA, along with faculty from Valdosta State University, the National Council of History Educators, and the Carter Presidential Center in a three-year collaboration to improve the teaching and learning of American history.
Wiregrass History is based upon the belief that effective public school teachers must be developed with graduate education and in-service opportunities to achieve increased teacher content knowledge. Empowered teachers will become more effective at classroom applications and as school curricula developers with a firm grasp of content will enable their students.
