      How does YAP work?

Youth Apprenticeship provides an opportunity for juniors and seniors to start preparing for a career while still in high school. YAP consists of:

  • a sequence of courses that develops each student's academic and occupational competencies
  • on-the-job learning guided by a skilled work-based mentor
  • skill development based on competency standards developed by industry and labor

      How will YAP benefit students?

Through Youth Apprenticeship students are able to:

  • earn wages while learning from skilled professionals
  • increase career options and future employability
  • strengthen academic skills
  • experience the connection between education and real-life work skills
  • earn post-secondary credit while in high school
  • experience potential careers in the workplace
